Building Lives in the Community
Belev Raanana is building a home in the community for low-functioning young adults with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Belev Raanana’s vision is rooted in the recognition that these young adults have the right to live a full life, near their families, within their home communities. This follows the philosophy of community and inclusive living. While this philosophy applies to everyone, it has unfortunately not yet been applied to this vulnerable sector of society.

The building of the home reflects a change in Israeli society’s approach to this vulnerable sector of society
The home will be built on land allocated by the Raanana Municipality at 9 HaPrachim St.
The home we are building is one of the first of its kind to be built in Israel – a home within the community – specifically for people with severe disabilities.
The initiative for the home arose from the lack of suitable residential solutions for young adults with severe disabilities. Refusing to accept the solutions available, we decided to take action!

A message from the Mayor of Raanana:
The city of Raanana commends the initiative of Belev Raanana - establishing a residential complex for low-functioning young adults with intellectual disabilities. It is a great privilege to take part in this important project. The City Council has allocated public land for the construction of the complex, which will provide its residents with a caring home and optimal quality of life for the rest of their lives. The complex will be built in a residential neighborhood in west Raanana at 9 HaPrachim st. as part of the concept of inclusion of people with special needs in the community. We believe that in addition to its great significance for the residents and their families, the project will add an important dimension to the fundamental values of our entire community.
Professional organizations involved in the project
The project was enabled by a longstanding partnership with several professional organizations
Israel's Ministry of Social Affairs & Social Services has given its stamp of approval to this project. In the future, once the home is occupied, the Ministry will allocate funds based of the number of residents.
The City of Raanana supports the project, and has allocated land for its construction.
The Raanana Social Services Department is the professional agency advising the project.
The National Insurance Institute of Isreal (Bituach Leumi) Fund for Development of Services for People with Disabilities has found the project eligible to apply for assistance.
Shalem Foundation (Keren Shalem) - a public fund specializing in the development of services in local authorities for people with intellectual disabilities- is providing the project with guidance.

Belev Raanana – Living together in the Raanana community
No more institutions! No more exclusion!
A home in the heart of the community
Belev Raanana is a registered nonprofit organization (No. 580490605) established with the aim of building a home in the community for young adults with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The project was undertaken after extensive research found that no suitable community-living options exist in Israel for people with severe disabilities. Refusing to accept this, we decided to take action!
Thanks to our initiative, these young people will finally have a home, accessible and adapted to their specific needs, where they can live a full and dignified life within their home community.
Today, with a building permit in hand, Belev Raanana looks forward to the laying of the cornerstone for the new building.

For many years my family and I struggled with the difficult and complex challenge of raising a child with special needs in our home. We gave him all our love and devotion, which were always able to overcome the hardships. But thinking of the future, I found it hard to imagine my son living in some faraway institution. I wanted him, as he reached adulthood, to continue living in the community, in a supportive and dignified home - just like the home of his childhood. And that is how the idea was born: building a loving home in the community.
Not an institution. Not a hostel. Not a shelter. A HOME.
From the hardship, an opportunity arises.
The home is designed for moderate to low-functioning young adults with intellectual disabilities and/or in need of nursing care.
The home we are building is a model of giving and a moral compass for us all - families, the enlightened community, and a value-based society that respects life.

The Building
Previously sent to faraway institutions, these young adults will now be able to live in their own loving, supportive home community
The home being built by Belev Raanana is among the first of its kind in Israel:
Apartments in the community for young adults with severe disabilities.
Young adults with severe disabilities, and/or in need of nursing care, who in the past would have been excluded from the community and sent to faraway institutions, will now be able to live their whole lives with dignity within their home community.
The entire plan of the residential complex is based on the most advanced professional approaches regarding housing solutions for special populations within the community. It will include three residential units, and each unit will be run independently, providing its residents with a sense of home, support and security.
Based on the highest standards of construction, the building will be fully accessible to people with disabilities. It will include three stories: a ground floor with two apartments, an upper floor with one apartment, and a lower ground floor with public areas and storerooms.

Naming opportunities:
A donation of $ 1,250,000 : the entire complex will be named for the donor and/or according to his or her specifications.
A donation of $ 550,000 : one of the 3 residential units will be named for the donor and/or according to his or her specifications.

The mission of parenthood is always challenging and complex.
For parents of children with special needs, it is immensely more so.
These young adults were raised by loving families, within a supportive, embracing community.
The current professional approach strives to put an end to their exclusion from the community and allow them to live their whole lives in the communities where they grew up. No more institutions and hostels based on an outdated approach. The home we are building will represent the new conception that says:
YES to living in the community for adults with severe disabilities
YES to inclusion in society and continued contact with the loving families.

Tomi is an endearing blue-eyed boy, who loves to swim, play and listen to music. We have raised him with great love in our home, and his complete helplessness has bound us to him with the strongest bonds of both affection and obligation.

I want to tell you about Nimrod:
Our dear son Nimrod passed away recently. My dearly beloved firstborn son was a friendly boy with a smile on his face. Being his father made me much more open and sensitive as a man, and taught me a great deal about parenthood and about myself.
Atar
Raising and cherishing our beloved Atar, we grow with her, always rising up to the challenge, with heartache, worry and determination as our constant companions. Every morning we begin again! With endless optimism, a smile, and most of all – so much love for our delightful, lovely Atar. With her amazing cheerfulness, she gives us the strength to go on!
